Hello! Russ Family Daycare is currently hiring for an assistant caregiver. This role would involve working with children from 0-5 years of age, though primarily with children in the 2-4 year age range. Responsibilities would include:

• Supervising and interacting with children in a way that is positive, warm, and conducive to their good development
• Guiding children along during the program’s transitions (ie. Going from inside to outside, getting ready for lunch, lying down for nap, etc)
• Assisting with basic program chores (Cleaning messes, helping children wash hands, changing diapers, etc)
• Other miscellaneous tasks as may be necessary.

In an ideal candidate, we would look for the following traits:

• Ability to be physically active for the entirety of the day (Think of how children play: Lots of running, crawling, getting up and down, etc. The same motions are expected from caregivers)
• Ability to maintain calm and respect during periods of tension and chaos, and to transmit these qualities to the children in our care
• Experience working with children is a bonus, but not necessarily required
• Ability to work in a loud environment, as childcare settings often are
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both as spoken and as written
  • Knowledge of other languages is a bonus
• A strong sense of moral duty to others, especially children
• An appreciation for the incredible importance of the work we do. This is not an idle job, nor is it a place for idle efforts. The work we do is, without exaggeration or hubris, the most important work in the world. Anyone who seeks to work in childcare must understand just how valuable this work is.

In accordance with the State of Indiana’s licensing regulations, caregivers must also meet the following requirements:

• Caregivers must:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Successfully pass a five-panel drug test
  • Be capable of performing first aid and CPR when needed
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check which indicates:
    • No felonies or misdemeanors relating to the health and safety of children,
    • No felonies within the last ten years, and
    • No felonies considered dangerous
